Navrachana Vidyani Vidyalaya bags prestigious ISA accreditation
The Navrachana Vidyani Vidyalaya is probably the first School in Gujarat affiliated to the state Board (GSEB) to have bagged the British Council’s International School Award (ISA) Accreditation. The ISA recognizes good practice in innovative ways in which Schools can introduce the international dimension in their co-curricular activities. Navrachana Vidyani Vidyalaya attained this prestigious, and rather stringent, accreditation on the basis of the global outlook in its curriculum transaction.
The School’s students (Classes I-IX) took up nine projects (Transportation & Communication, Bedtime Stories, Food Habits, Housing & Clothing, Festivals, Environment & Climate, Books & Authors, Architecture, Culture & Heritage) based on the theme of “Change”. They interacted with expatriates in Vadodara from Japan, China and the USA, and linking up with schools in Kuwait, UK and USA, to understand how “Change” has influenced these nine themes in extraordinary and unusual ways in different parts of the world.
The Project which proactively engaged the School’s students throughout 2010-11, endeavoured to meet exciting challenges and derive solutions, all with an international perspective, since no individual, society or nation can today remain isolated from global influences. If “change” is the order of the day, then surely Vidyanians are well-prepared to adapt, adjust and innovate to suit evolving contexts. The ISA accreditation is an affirmation of the methods adopted by the Navrachana Vidyani Vidyalaya teachers.

Report on - Change in Transportation and Communication - Std II
"Change in trends and modes of communication and transport"
With the objective of achieving excellence, the Grade Two students, under the
International School Award project, researched and reviewed the history, origin and change in the trends and modes of communication and transport.
Worksheets were designed across various disciplines like Math, Environmental Awareness, English, Gujarati, etc to develop cross-curricular links.
The students wrote letters to their parents on the postcards and sent mails to their friends and relatives abroad to share with them the international trends and changes in the mode of communication and transport. They performed drills on the same.
An exhibition was held to display the collages prepared by the students and show the Ms PowerPoint presentation which graphically presented the changing trends of the modes of transport and communication.
Report on- Global Changes in Literary World - Class IX
123 students of Std IX of the age group 13 ½ to 14 ½ years carried out a research on the topic ‘Global Changes in Literary World’. The objective was to appreciate and develop a deeper understanding of the literary work in different parts of the world and to generate awareness about the changes which have taken place in the literature. The countries chosen for the research work were UK, USA and India.
Initially an action plan was sketched out. The students were thereafter allotted duties of collecting information about the literature of the above mentioned countries. They read novels written by various authors and poems by renowned poets. They learnt how these countries greatly influenced the authors and poets of the period which in turn was reflected in their writings. Students recited poems in the class, they were then short listed and a poem recitation was held. Ms Rakshya Mark (Incharge Navrachana Language Academy) was invited to adjudge the same.
Famous passage written by authors in USA, UK and India were also read out. A talk show was arranged in the school auditorium, Mr. Yogen Shah, who is an IT Professional, a business technologist and Cambridge Certified Teacher and also the Coordinator NLA was invited. He talked about the Major Global Trends which was an amalgamation of Western and Eastern philosophies. He also threw light on collaborative writing, non-linear literature, self- publishing and literature visualization. He explained the growth of feminist or women centered approach as a major development in modern Indian fiction. He also provided information on the various genres of literature by giving examples of a few recent realistic fiction novels.
As a part of History, students analyzed how literature of various countries has changed with time and how it reflects the culture of these countries. An exhibition was put up exhibiting their research work. A dance on Rabindranath Tagore’s famous song ‘Aamar Sonar Bangla’, describing the beauty of Bangladesh was also presented.
The activities enabled students to make a systematic comparison between the national and the international trends in literary world. The parents appreciated the performances by giving an encouraging feedback.
Report on - Change in Housing and Clothing - Class III
A house is a home when it shelters the body and comforts the soul. - Philip Moffit
Although this functional role played by a house has
remained stationary down the years, it has undergone varied and drastic structural changes over the years to suit the needs of the man initially and to affect the comfort factor eventually. The students of grade 3 reviewed the changing trends in housing and clothing under International School Awards project. Similar is the tale of evolution of the clothing as it gradually acquired fashion during its journey through the function.
Teacher designed worksheets across various subjects to implement cross
curricular links. Mails were exchanged across countries to know about
international trends in housing and clothing. These changes in houses
were shown through clay modeling and paper folding during Art and Craft
period. Students made various house models that simulate different types
of houses.
In order to intensify their knowledge about the construction of houses,
students were taken to a construction site. If we go down the time line,
we would come across a wide variety of both style and fabrics all over
the world. Starting from animal hides, loin clothes, silk, cotton,
cardigans and various types of jeans. Hands on experience were given to
the students regarding weaving, tie-n-dye and block printing. Students
came out with different and beautiful patterns using their creative
skills.
To enable students to make a systematic comparisons between the national
and the International trends in clothing, traditional dances were
performed followed by a fashion show which presented international
attire.
Report on - Change in Bed time stories - Class I
Vidyani has been always looking forward to adopt ways and means to achieve excellence through varied initiatives that are experimental and innovative in nature.
Globalization requires us to reinvent everything – to think of ourselves as compared to others. In this age of rapid globalization, there is little wonder to see education achieving new horizons by turning global.
As a part of the effort of giving our curriculum a global dimension, our students and teachers toiled alike to research the varied ‘changes’ in different fields. ‘Change’ being the topic for the year, to accreditation with the International School Award by British Council.
The grade one students carried out an intensive research programme to review the change in the bed-time stories which was embedded in the curriculum across a range of subjects.
The teachers designed various worksheets in all subjects to develop awareness among the students regarding the change in the bed-time stories across cultures so as to implement an interdisciplinary amalgamation of ideas to support the campaign.
Resource person Ms. Neeta Bhave was invited to enlighten the students regarding the same through puppetry which is one of the ancient Indian forms of story telling.
The teachers told the students various cross cultural bed time stories during the DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) class to enable them to have a feel of the international trends. This also made it possible for the students to live some of those characters through role play conducted during the house activity class.
Last but not the least; the students performed a dramatization of the four versions of ‘The Hare and The Tortoise’ which is the best example that signifies the ‘change’ in the bed time stories. Parents were thrilled at the performances of their little ones while the objective too was achieved with the message getting across effectively.
Our tiny tots have indeed fastened their seat belts and geared up to set out to prove that ours is truly an ‘International School’.
Vidyani@Athens
Malay Agarwal, Dhruv Gunjal, Parth Desai & Mixit Shah represented the Basketball Team of Navarachana Sports Academy from Vidyani at the 43rd International Children's Games at Athens from 24th to 29th June 2009.

After a brief introduction about the contribution of our erstwhile national leaders towards the development of India, the Council President was called upon to unfurl the tricolour. This was followed by the melodious rendition of the national anthem, ‘Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyaara’ and ‘Saare Jahan Se Acchha’. The Headboy of the school, then, delivered a heart rending speech on the role of youth in nation building capacity. The programme concluded with the lilting performance of another patriotic song full with the fervor and flavour of the spirit of nationalism. Guru Purnima Celebration 2011-12
Guru Purnima is celebrated on Aashadi Purnima, also known as Vyaasa Purnima in the sacred memory of the great sage Vyaasa, the Adi Guru of the Hindu religion. Gurus are revered and honoured on this auspicious day i.e.15th July. At Vidyani, too, gurus were aptly honoured.
The programme was distributed into two halves; [first part for Stds.VII
–XII and second part for Stds.I –VI], with the first part having eminent
educationist Shri Rameshchandra Patel, the National Award winner for
the Best Teacher in 2000, as the Chief Guest. The programme began with
the rendition of a soulful song stating the role of the teacher in our
lives. The contemporary dance as well as the ballet illustrated the
importance of significance of the teacher in our works and lives.
Teachers who have spent 10 years of their lives in the service of the
institution were also felicitated by the Chief Guest. The keynote
address by the Chief Guest focused upon the importance of activities in
the teaching-learning process of the students. He also stated the value
of ‘true’ gurus in inculcating and imbibing learning to all children. A
truly heart – rendering song gave a final touch to the event.
The second function, too, bordered on the same lines with a couple of
additions. An enthralling and mesmerizing Ganesh Stuti was classically
performed by a student of Std.VIII. The Kala Aradhana awards, for those
students who had achieved General Proficiency in Activities for three
years in a row, were distributed to the winners. The event culminated
with the rendition of the National Anthem and distribution of shreephal
and roses to all the teachers.
